There are a number of factors you should crunch when you find yourself shopping for baseball gloves. Of course, you’ll need to account for the position you play. A fielder’s mitt won’t be much use behind home plate, and so on and so forth. At the same time, you’ll have to shop through your favorite brands and look for the traits that you appreciate most in a mitt.
Some things you’ll have to account for are overall comfort and flexibility. You’ll want to take durability, weight, and breathability into the mix as well. Do you prefer the strength and cushioning of all leather construction, or would you be happier with a breathable synthetic that was lighter as well? Do you like a stiffer basket or a more flexible, more open option for absorbing the impact of hard hits? These are only a few of the things you’ll want to consider when you’re shopping. We’ve compiled this list of Wilson baseball gloves to hit a number of the key points.
2020 Wilson A2000 PF88 11.25” Infield Baseball Glove
This is just about any man’s baseball glove for use in the field, with a good mix of features to make it ideal for infield play, though you could wear it in the outfield in a pinch. This Wilson glove comes with an improved design making use of the Pedroia FitTM for players that have slightly smaller hands.
In addition, it comes with Wilson’s H-Web design, also known as an I-Web design, which is great for absorbing the impact of hard-hit balls without adding too much weight or stiffness to the overall design of the glove. It is made from Pro Stock leather, well regarded for its strength and durability, and the glove is dual-welting for extra longevity and to stand up to many seasons of hard use.
2020 Wilson A2000 OT6 SuperSkin 12.75” Outfield Baseball Glove
Unlike the former entry, this model was entirely designed to offer the maximum number of useful features for outfielders. Arguably the key component of this glove’s design is the fact that it is made from Wilson’s SuperSkin Pro Stock Leather, an unbelievably durable and utilitarian synthetic.
Wilson’s SuperSkin Leather is twice as strong as the real thing and only half the weight. That’s a factor of four; Wilson practically multiplied the strength and durability of this glove by four times just by making a slight alteration to its design.
That’s only one thing they built into it, however. This glove is lighter and easier to break in than many alternatives, and on top of that is slightly longer which can give outfielders slightly better reach. In addition, this glove’s pocket is tightly woven but offers a lot of space. That makes the glove not only lighter and more nimble but does not take away from its ability to reach pop flies, line drives, or fast-reacting grounders. Overall, it’s a great glove for outfielders that need a tough glove that is surprisingly light and quick on the hand.
2019 Wilson A2000 SuperSkin 11.75” Baseball Glove
This glove is designed to meet the needs of any infield player, regardless of what they’re looking for in a glove. Light, quick, strong, and unbelievably cushioned, it’s one of those gloves you need to try on and practice with to understand its value.
Made with Wilson’s SuperSkin like the former model, this is a light and strong glove. In addition to the formerly listed benefits of SuperSkin, it should be noted that SuperSkin, unlike real leather, is more water repellent, unlike leather which is absorbent. That is a feature that wildly increases the comfort of the glove. In addition, this glove has an open back and a Dri-Lex wrist lining, all of which are intended to keep the player cool and dry.
Another thing to keep in mind with this glove is that it has a slightly deeper pocket than other comparable alternatives, making it ideal for keeping a handle on line drives, especially those that reach you in the infield. Whether you play third base or somewhere in the middle infield, you’ll be comfortable and well prepared in this glove.
These are some excellent choices in Wilson baseball gloves, but keep in mind that these only represent a small portion of the Wilson gloves we offer here at HB Sports. Not only do we offer other Wilson baseball gloves for infield and outfield use as well as for catchers, but we also offer Wilson softball gloves as well.
